… Isn’t Father’s Day in June???

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen within her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.

These words are both beautiful & encouraging … most mothers have a phenomenal way of passing such sage advice on to their daughters and such; however, these are the words of an educator-humorist written for HIS grandchild. Too often, the need for a nurturing word from a father or grandfather is left only to be filled by the womanly wisdom & guidance of Momma & Big’Momma. Which are PRICELESS and IRREPLACABLE!!! In light of Father’s Day, which is sometimes a passing thought in the month of June, I would like to acknowledge fathers (in all capacities) that truly do pass these words on to their baby girls.  Dads can be more powerful that one might think. Due to the void of fathers’ direct guidance, today’s society has somewhat discounted the importance of fatherly input. Young women will always benefit from the positive support that fathers can give to round out a strong sense of self that mothers so eloquently put into motion!  Much Love to the daddies that have been there from day1 … Kudos to the dads by default that ‘stepped’ in for the greater good … High5 to the uncles, brothers & cousins that never fail to look out … Respect to all MEN who truly know what it means to be a father to all children and do just that!

To end this with a laugh:

Chris Rock said that the primary job of a father was to keep his daughter off of the stripper pole.

It all can easily start with a kind and encouraging word.

… word? WORD!

Technology Connection & Reality Disconnection

We are living in the times of technology. Which has gained us leaps & bounds in the way of information and access to EVERYTHING!

But this is by far not without casualties of reality.

Today there are more influences of what one wants than what one actually needs.

Nowadays perhaps there are more single people because they are forever looking online, facebooking, tweeting, instagramming and so on and so on …. Giving the idea that there is something better, shinier, and more exciting elsewhere.

This has an incredible impact on how reality is handled. Although it is not a bad idea to open your mind and explore the possibilities of furthering an education, learning about different cultures, or even checking out the current trends of life….

But to ignore the reality of what is actually within arms reach and disregard the daily tasks of living is a real disconnect.

Social media has a few married couples starting to think that they settled too soon, younger folks think social media is their next ticket to fast stardom, not to mention THE THIRST!!!! This encompasses a variety of people looking for anything and everything to feed the want to be seen, loved, acknowledged, validated, ect, ect, ect…..

Technology has become the be all to end all. Without it, we learned patience and diligence. With it we have convenience and instant gratification.

I’m not saying I’m not a fan because I surely appreciate living in an age where anything is available at the touch of a button but it is not without revelation that connecting through a mainframe will never be the same as connecting with one another in real-time with real life through real experiences.

When a friend went on to tell me how they were so caught up in Candy Crush that they almost got fired, I thought, DANG! When is too much, too much?! Another person told a story about their neighbor that hadn’t tended to their yard in months but is always sitting on their porch with a lap top… And the catalyst for this blog entry was when someone was telling me about how they would rather just buy their kids ipads & all that instead of helping them with homework or dealing with having to entertain them.

Connections to technology have really made it far too easy for a disconnection from reality.

With that being said, I’m logging off and going outside to play!

Shake a hand, give a hug, go and talk FACE to FACE with someone.

*cue Soul II Soul* …

back to life back to the present time
back from a fantasy
tell me now take the initiative
ill leave it in your hands until your ready

He-Mogul Goodies: Normann Copenhagen Cognac Glasses

Designer Rikke Hagen explains the idea behind the Cognac glasses: “I wanted to craft a cognac glass. The perfect gift to the man, who has everything. The inspiration springs from my own perception of when you drink a cognac; that is when you have time and in calm surroundings. I wanted the glass to give the user a feeling of a gentleman’s study and at the same time, the sense of calmness you get when you e.g. fondle a stone. The stem kept irritating me. I took the consequence and cut it off. That’s how my Cognac glass was born.”

Sip like a Mogul 😉
